Due to weather the workshop has been rescheduled for 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 13th
Southern Illinois Monitors are having a Fun Route Walk at Ferne Clyffe State Park, Saturday, June 22. We will meet at the first parking lot by the lake at 9:00 AM. Enter via the Park entrance on Route 37 just south of Goreville and turn left toward the lake when you get to the stop sign. (Going straight would take you to the campground.)
The route is a loop that includes an easy flat walk across the top of the levee, a short climb through woods up to the Round Bluff picnic area, and a walk along a paved road at the base of the levee (planted in prairie flowers and grasses!) to return to the lake parking lot. The route then continues for a short distance along the lake edge to the west. About 3/4 of the route is accessible for all mobility levels. No promises, but the monitor of that route has seen 4 Juniper (Olive) Hairstreaks there.
Note: This event is scheduled the same day as the IBMN Field Workshop in Northern Illinois, which should be a great learning opportunity presented by expert monitors. The Southern Illinois event is presented as a option for those who are unable to travel to the Field Workshop. It will be a joint sharing of experiences and knowledge by beginning and intermediate monitors.
